How to make YouTube thumbnails using "Promeo"

Promeo is an all-in-one video and image editing app that allows you to create videos and thumbnails with a single app.

It is designed for use on the small screen of smartphones, and you can create thumbnails with a professional design with a simple tap operation.

Choose from over 1, <> templates of eye-catching colors, fonts, and effects to create stunning thumbnail images, or customize them yourself.

Step 1: Start Promeo

When you start Promeo, you will see the screen shown below, so select "YouTube (16:9)".

Step 2: Choose a template.

Promeo has a huge number of templates to choose from that best fit the image of the photo or video you want to use for your thumbnail.
You can also narrow it down to some extent using the search function.

If you find a template you like, tap it and tap "Edit."

Step 3: Replace the photo.

Replace the photo in the template with the one you want to use for your thumbnail.
Tap the template, and when the menu at the bottom of the screen changes, tap Replace.

The photos saved in the photo folder of the smartphone will be displayed, so select the photo you want to use for the thumbnail and tap it.
Then, "+" will be displayed in the photo, so tap the "+" again to replace the photo.

Step 4: Rewrite the text and change the font.

All strings in the template can be rewritten.
Let's rewrite it as a string that matches the video thumbnail you want to create.

First, let's delete unnecessary effects in the template.
You can delete unwanted effects by tapping the unwanted effect part and tapping "Delete" from the menu at the bottom of the screen.

Then tap the text you want to change.
Then, the keyboard will appear as shown in the figure below, so rewrite the string here.

In addition to rewriting the string, let's change the font as well.
Promeo offers a large number of Japanese fonts, so choose the font that best suits your video image.

By tapping "Apply font to all" at this time, you can change the font of all characters in the template at once.

Step 5: Crop and add photos.

You can add more photos.
To add a photo, tap Add from the menu at the bottom of the screen, then tap Image when the menu changes.

Then, the photo folder will open, tap the image you want to add.

When you add a photo, it will be placed on top of the photo of the fireworks as shown on the right in the figure below, but the background of the trees and the background of the fireworks do not match as it is, so you want to crop only the person and use it.

Tap a photo with a person, then tap Crop in the bottom menu of your screen. The menu will switch, tap "Automatic."

It will automatically recognize the person and only the person will be cropped.
If the automatic crop is not recognized cleanly, you can select the cropped part by using the "brush" on the right in the figure below, and you can erase the part you do not want to crop by using the "eraser".

If you are satisfied with the check, tap "✓" on the right of the figure below.

As shown below, only the person is displayed cropped.
By pinching or swiping, you can change the size, position, and angle of the image, so please position it freely.

Step 6: Check the results.

When the thumbnail becomes as imaged, it is finished. For video templates, tap the "Play Button" at the bottom to see the finished image.

Step 7: Don't forget to output.

When you're done, don't forget to "output".
Output is possible by tapping the "up arrow" at the top right of the screen.

Export can be done as "video" or "still image", but this time it is a thumbnail creation, so tap "Upward ↔" on the screen of the moment you want to save and tap "Export as still image".

                        This completes the thumbnail!

What is the right size for YouTube thumbnails?

The thumbnail size recommended by the official YouTube guide is 1280×720, which is less than 2MB of images. The most commonly used aspect ratio for YouTube playback screens and previews is 16:9, so if you use a custom thumbnail, make sure to create a thumbnail of the right size.

Below are some points to keep in mind when creating thumbnails and sample designs. This sample design is included in the Promeo introduced in this article, so if you like the design, please download the app and use it!

Thumbnails with face close-up + camera looking images have a strong impression and are more likely to be clicked. You can make a strong impression on your audience, especially by using it in videos with a strong message.

Be consistent in your design.

In the case of a series of videos, you can achieve "branding" probability by making the typeface, colors used, layout, etc. consistent. Surprisingly, many viewers often don't remember exactly what channel name of the video they're watching, but by continuing to use a consistent thumbnail design, they'll quickly recognize it's from your channel.

Include psychologically appealing elements.

By making good use of mimicry words, onomatopoeia and katakana, you can expect to appeal psychologically and attract the hearts of many people. Let's think of an expression that fits perfectly with the content of the video. By choosing a font that matches the theme of your video, viewers can receive your message without any discomfort. There are classic combinations such as old stamps for horror videos and two-color bordered fonts for variety shows. Let's study how different thumbnails use typefaces.
